How traumatizing this must have been to Mako. He had to watch someone he loves get their bending taken away and knew he couldn’t do anything about it. Just like how he watched helplessly as his parents were killed in front of him.
And it’s worse this time because he does have the power to save someone, but he’s being restrained and he can’t.
